Free bandwidth monitor

Hi Experts

Anyone know of a simple free bandwidth monitor to get some stats of my lousy Qwest DSL set up at home? I am looking for a utility to poll the outside world every so often and report on uptime and max bandwidth (or something like it). My home network is suffering from some kind of intermittent, systemic fluctuations in bandwidth and connectivity, which I want to analyse.

Thanks.

If you want something that works as a standalone application, you can always use netlimiter, it allows you to limit network usage, display network usage and makes graphs and stats of it:
