Consecutive ma-open calls are failing with error 3051

We have started getting this error. I checked the services and the “Microsoft Exchange MTA Stack” service is set up as an Automatic service but will not start (I am assuming that the “MTA Stack” service is the same as the “MTA” Service is that correct?)  Here are the details.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Verify that the Microsoft Exchange MTA service has started. Consecutive ma-open calls are failing with error 3051.

Then when I try to start the service I get this error


A fatal database error occurred, the database recovery operation was not successful and manual correction will be required. Details can be found in the file: D:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mtadata\.\MTACHECK.OUT\MTACHECK.LOG. Please contact Microsoft Technical Support. [DB Server MAIN BASE 1 67] (16)

SBS2000. How can i tell if SP2 is installed for Exchange.

Open exchange system manager and navigate to servers ... I believe it will show on the right side ...

I would wager the article still applies ... I would try to reinstall SMTP according to the directions in kb840469 ... I'll try to find some more info for you if it doesn't work ... it should be a fairly quick process to go through the steps
