chat port

Hi All Experts,
Can anybody tell me how to close the port conecrned about chatting. i want to disable the chat process, but still enabling browsing and mail options.
i'm using windows 98 SE

depends what you mean by chat?  There are different ports used by different chat programs.

I mean specially the MSN & Yahoo messengers. thanks

Unfortunately as with most messenger services, they scan all available ports for an open one:  Yahoo is one of them....here is what they say on their website.

It will be impossible to block traffic unless you stop internet access.  Another route might be to block yahoo traffic.  This can be done through DNS entries pointing users to a non-existent or internal IP so that they are not able to correctly resolve yahoo servers.  And the same can be done with MSN.  You can use group policy to prevent users from running these applications....you can look at group policy by going to Start --> Run --> gpedit.msc.
