Laptop freezes when unplugged
Hi,
I have an emachines M6807 and M6809 laptop and yesterday installed SP2 for XP home on both of them.
one works fine, the other has a problem which should be related to the update because it worked fine before.
Every time I unplug the laptop from the power, it completely freezes up and even task manager wont work. So I have to shut it off manually and start it up again.
Has anybody else experienced a problem like this? I have no idea what to check and where to look and windows doesnt seem to find any fault with itself.
Thanks in advance
Nina

I forgot to mention, I have an eMachines M6805 which is basically the same as your two models, mine has just a bit slower processor speed. The lack of drivers from either AMD or eMachines is very frustrating, and users have been posting issues with the PowerNow software and Windows XP for a long time now. This latest conflict with SP2 is only further hassle, and I hope that a new version of the drivers will be released very soon to fix these unacceptable problems.

sorry about not getting back to this sooner... was a little busy
I want to thank both of you for your replies. I finally got hold of emachines support (a little tricky when you live in the UK and got your laptops in the US) . They of course blame microsoft for not giving them time to support SP2 properly. However, I noticed they are advertising it on their own website too now but I don't suppose it fixes anything? Very annoying for sure and they weren't even able to tell me what causes it. So thank you for your post Mark, at least now I know what I am looking for and waiting for :)
I uninstalled SP2 on both laptops now after talking to emachines, the 6809 started developing some issues as well. What annoys me even more is that I installed it on a 2 year old laptop without any issues, and my 2 brand spanking new ones can't handle SP2.
Ah well, guess I will join the queue and wait. Thank you both for your replies. I hope it is ok with you that I split the points between you as I found both your answers helpful
Thanks again :)

When a laptop is unplugged from power, means now it will run on Battery.... and here the problem is happening.... ur system is freezing when u want it to run on battery power ??
now my one question,,, does the freeze happens only when system is running and u pulls out the power cable.... or if u start the system with battery support(power cable unplugged).... it freezes even then ??
