OS= Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition


The following is a step-by-step guide to problems encountered on my second to last OS install then a list of apps that I'm certain not only me would like

info on how to get working perfectly on this OS.

I will have Terminal Server installed.



Step-by-Step Guide

After a clean OS install I:


01. Waited untill everything had finished loading

02. Clicked Start Menu

03. Right-clicked My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings

04. Checked Adjust for best appearance

05. Clicked Apply > OK > OK

06. Clicked Start Menu > Run

07. Typed services.msc

08. Set all required services to use similar to a Workstation automatic and started.

09. Clicked Close

10. Repeated step 02

11. Right-clicked My Computer > Manage

12. Expanded Local Users and Groups > Users

13. Right-clicked Users > New User...

14. Created my user account

15. Clicked Close > Close

16. Clicked Start Menu > Log Off > Log Off

17. Logged in as me

18. Repeated steps 01 - 05

19. Clicked Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components

20. Checked all services that work at this stage

21. Clicked Next

22. Clicked Yes to install phonebook

23. Clicked Yes and setup static IP for installed Firewire adaptor

24. Clicked OK to Service took more than alloted time to start errors for WINS and DNS Optional Networking               Components

25. Clicked Finish to Completed installing Windows Components

26. Clicked Yes to System Setting changed reboot box

27. Repeated step 17

28. Got At least one service or driver reported a problem. Please check the error log for details error message.

29. Repeated step 01

30. Clicked OK to step 28

31. Clicked Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

32. Clicked Remove > Yes to Remote Administration Tools

33. Repeated step 06

34. Typed dxdiag

35. Repeated step 01

36. Clicked Enable to DirectDraw Acceleration

37. Clicked Exit

38. clicked Start Menu > My Computer

39. Double-clicked D: and located Omega ATi Drivers Package

40. Double-clicked it and got Click next after installation message behind

41. Checked right settings and installed all features

42. Clicked OK to reboot box

43. Repeated step 17

44. Got and repeated steps 28 - 30

45. Double-clicked D: and located and installed AVG Pro and Sygate Personal Firewall Pro like steps 35 - 36

46. Repeated step 42 for Sygate Personal Firewall Pro except it was a reboot dialog box with a Yes and No option

47. Repeated step 17

48. Got CoCreateInstance Error error message box from Sygate Personal Firewall Pro

49. Got and repeated steps 28 - 30

50. Repeated step 38

51. Double-clicked D: and located SpeedTouch USB setup

51. Double-clicked it and got Click next after installation dialog box behind

52. Installed application but forgot to click next to dialog box untill after th Found new hardware wizard - what might happen?

53. Repeated step 01

54. Repeated step 38

55. Double-clicked D: and located Firefox 0.9.3 setup

56. Double-clicked it

57. Installed it and checked option to launch now

58. Got Couldn't find site error

59. Clicked OK

60. Minimized Firefox

61. Double-clicked SpeedTouch Dial-up shortcut on Desktop

62. Input login details

63. Clicked Connect

64. Didn't click allow to a service beginning with n trying to connect to an IP address stopped by Sygate Personal Firewall

65. Restored Firefox

66. Reloaded page in Firefox

67. Nothing displayed

68. Closed and reopenned Firefox

69. Got step 67

70. Opened IE

71. Same set of events as in steps 66 - 69 but with IE

72. Allowed service mentioned in step 64 through thinking it may be the cause of no page display and got BSOD: IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS

73. Reinstalled OS

74. Installation finished and am now at Administrator login prompt


Please can I have an explanation of what exceptions must be made to allow these applications/hardware I use to work perfectly with no errors anywhere in

server (or if no fix an alternative):
