Hi im currently runing SAV 9 corp on a client/server network. I would like to make each of the clients update their defs every time a user logs onto a client from the main server. That way I can ensure every client has the uptodate defs even if the clients dont have internet access.

I've head mention of VDTM but cant find any of the options for it on the server copy (maybe they are unmanaged, I didnt set it up so I wouldnt know). So I was thinking of some sort of script that would read the def files out of a shared folder on the server and copy them into the client copy.

Hi drefsabuk,

You can make use intelligent updater to update your main server, leave a copy, then under the log on script, execute intelligent updater. Intelligent updater is almost available everyday, so it's the most updated def files...

Just a thought... possible solution i guess...

the problem i saw with this is that some clients wont have internet access, and the others would be wasting bandwidth (20 copys of the same file downloaded ect).. What I was planning is that the server only has internet access at all times that does the updating etc.. and the clients update from my server meaning only one copy of the defs gets pulled in over the net and I dont need to grant internet access to any clients.

Hi drefsabuk,

This can be done. Copy it into your server and your logon script run the exe that you've downloaded.... does that help?

so it'll be your server have the internet access and the rest of the clients load the intelligent updater from you.

Cheers,
Luis

I've decided to scrap SAV because this solution just wasnt working out well, inteligent updater kept trying to establish internet connections and users (with their own laptops etc) kept changing settings.
