You can rename your mpeg files in the Nero when you compile them as VCD. <br />

After adding the files, you will see them being renamed as AVSEQ01, 02 etc.<br />
<br />
You can rename them to MUSIC01.dat, MUSIC02.dat etc. <br />
<br />
MUSIC01.dat and AVSEQ.dat are the only two names i have seen working fine across all VCD players.<br />
<br />
AVSEQ stands for AudioVideoSEQuence.<br />
<br />
As for subtitles, thumbnails, use NERO to create VCDs, it gives the option to generate an interface for your video files.<br />
