having probs installing certificate onto iis6 to allow ssl traffic.. have installed certificate authority server onto windows 2k3 and generated a certificate (not sure if i did it right or not but i used standalone root option. Installed the certificate onto a web site on the server and when i run a tracert to that server (for privacy, call it blah.com) it feels like resolving that alphanumeric name to 0.0.1.187??? (the actual ip adress is something like 81.xxx.xxx.xxx)

any ideas please? I'm stumped!

C:\>tracert www.blah.com 443

Hi,

you can't trace on a specific port! :-o

tracert in an ICMP app anyway, so port information is not meaningful.

if you want to test that port 443 is available, first trace:

trace www.blah.com

and then use telnet:

telnet www.blah.com 443

if it is alive, the telnet screeen will just go blank.  if it is not, you will get a connection error.

cheers.
