how to create a windows service which can return values? or how we can call a module or function from a windows service?

ajay_3480 - this is an incredibly broad question, please be more specific both about the environment (o/s), the programming platform (Visual Studio, .Net etc), the language (C#, VB, VB.Net) and finally give us an idea of the application you are thinking of.

i am trying to make a web application in asp.net and vb.net, for intranet use, I have successfully prepared the application for security reasons I have have added some registration keys into the system (WiNDOWS 2000), now, I wand is to have a windows service to return those values from the file located in the windows system directory, how is it possible?

Thanks for the extra info.

I'm not sure that a windows service is what you need.  Typically a windows service is a process which has no direct user interface, and needs to run outside of any particular logon (although a user context can be given to a service to allow that service to run with certain permissions, locale settings etc.)

You may be aware that using impersonation it is possible to get the ASP.Net process or even just a single page to impersonate a different set of permissions to normal ASP.Net see:
