mysqldump will lock the database table?

mysqldump -u user_name -p password mydatabase > dbbackup.sql

Will the above script lock the database?
If yes, how can i backup the database without lock it? This is because maybe some of the user is running insert or update statement while i doing backup database.

Hi,

try this..

mysqldump --opt -Q  --skip-lock-tables -u user_name -p password mydatabase > dbbackup.sql
