Exchange 2000 sp3 on win2000 server sp4 latest patches
If i have the following checked under the mail store properties on the limits tab: do not delete mailboxes and items until store has been backed up. Situation: exchange admin left. I can not find a full back up or the differential backups that were supposed to of been done. If I have (do not delete mailboxes and items until store has been backed up) checked will all the email and items still be located in the store? and if so how do I retrieve them, since they have been deleted by users(items; Emails) administrators (mail boxes); as I only have a 30 day setting on the recover deleted items option for individuals. I will need access to say a individuals emails that have been deleted from their mail box but not from the store since there has not been a full backup of the store. I would like to be able to restore them to a neutral part of the network then do a full back of them, before I do a back up of the store which will delete them.

To check your mailboxes open your Exchange manager,

open administrative groups - first adm. group.
open server - Server name - first storage group
open mailbox store, click on mailboxes, and have a look at the list.. delete mailbox will have an X on them. Right click them, and select reconnect or purge.
Purge= Delete
Reconnect= Reconnect to an existing user. You'll have to create a user with no mailboxe to do this.

Btw.. deleted items folder that were emptied can be recovered by each client. THey have to select their deleted item folder, and then go to tools -> recover deleted items.

Thnaks for the fast reply, I understand the recover deleted Items that is set to 30 days. I do not have any mail boxes with the red x. I still need to know how to get the items that have been delete over 30 days ago, but not permenatly deleted from the store Any Ideas?

Hmm, i got this from this page: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF022.html

"There is also a checkbox “Do not permanently delete mailboxes and items until the store has been backed up”.  This option would override the 35 days, so if we don’t do a backup for 60 days, there would be 60 days worth of deleted items.  When we perform the backup, anything older the 35 days will be purged."

If the option override everything.. your stuff should be there.. check out the page, they all explain how you should recover your stuff.. Hmm, the same way I told you.. if they are not there... it means they are lost :(
