SMTP error

User getting SMTP errors when trying to email out of our software.  The software calls upon the MSMAPI32.OCX control to email out.  I'm curious if someone could explain to me this:  This user can open his Outlook program and email from Outlook no problems to his Internet Yahoo Email account no problems, but keeps getting SMTP errors when emailing out of software, why is this?  He also get's SMTP errors when trying to email out of Word or any other application that allows him to email but no in Outlook itself?  What's the difference in being in the actual Outlook program and being in another program to email out?  Is there a transport protocal that is used, if so what is that (MSMAPI32.OCX, perhaps???).  If so, if unregistering the re-registering the MSMAPI32.OCX file doesn't correct it what would?

Thanks,
