Hi,
Iam using compaq X1030US laptop... Eventhough most of the people dislike the function keys, i luv them since i can open my firefox browser by  using "Fn+F3" and I can control my default media player.  But is there any way to configure them. For example there are "Fn+1", "Fn+2"........"Fn+5"  and no event is generated when i use them.. I believe that compaq left them for the user to configure....

Can anyone tell, how to configure these keys

Pressing the Fn key alters the outgoing scancode(s) for some of the keys you press. Others give the same scancode(s) even when Fn is pressed. Changing that sounds like you have to go to work on the KB firmware. If you can determine that you get a new scancode with [Fn] + [somekey] you might be able to use the new scancode. If it doesn't change you're stuck with plain old [somekey].
