home made ps/2 to usb conversion?

Hey , i just recently sold my desktop comp p42.8ghz, and am now running a toshiba satelite a70. i am straped for cash and would like to save as much money as i can now . any one know if it is possible to snip the end of my ps/2 keyboard connector and snip a end of a usb connector and solder the wires together to make something like thos adapters you can buy.

I think it's more to it than just a pin/cable rearrangement. A PS/2 KB has more active leads in the connector than the USB KB has. Some kind of (simp,e, possibly) electronics are involved, I suspect.

I have some electronic background and am taking a electrical engineering cource in college right now it like to try this if any one knows how or has the schmatics for the two??

For all the time and effort you could buy an adapter for $3.99 (includes shipping) off of EBay or try any computer shop/electronics store. You could also ask any computer tech at work or friend to see if they have a spare one since most usb mice come with the adaptor.
