I need a solution overview of how to do a PHP Listserv with MySQL if needed.
I have used Listserv before, but I have no idea about the way they are implemented.

Sorry, this question is far to broad to answer here. There is a great deal involved in building a listserve app. There is no way to simply give an "overview" of something like that. Besides, there are a lot of good free ones available.

One last question, weren't listserv originally developed on Unix systems, and without any Internet web interface?

I don't know the history of where it was originally developed, but yes, it has been around longer than the internet has.
