By "ls -l /dev/modem"
It should give you a listing with various details, one should show a link to /dev/ttySL0. If its doesnt, use the command "ln /dev/ttySL0 /dev/modem" (without the quotes - the ls -l /dev/modem command should also be without quotes)

There is actually a more up to date driver on smartlinks site. FC2 comes with the 2.6 kernel - the version you downloaded probably doesnt support this.  http://www.smlink.com/main/down/slmodem-2.9.10.tar.gz does

Sorry to be a pain, but do I use the same instructions from above for this driver?

Extract it. You dont have to extract it to /usr/src - anywhere will do. A slmodem-2.9.10  directory will be created. Follow the instructions in README in the slmodem-2.9.10 directory.
