Have a XP Home edt pc.  Cannot login even in safe mode.  When I select a user it starts to login then says saving settings and I'm back at (still at) the screen with the accounts to select (Administrator,  Owner).

Doesn't matter what account I select its starts the login then says saving settings and its like I'm loggin back out.  Never get to a desktop screen.

Thanks

If its not the case with u, then try these suggestions one after another !!

If ur System Restore was tunred on, u can try to use this method to try a system restore from command prompt !!
HOW TO: Start the System Restore Tool from a Command Prompt in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304449

if it produces the same results, then here is a long and hectic procedure available to restore the registry so that we can use System restore to roll back out system to the time when it was working fine !!
How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545

If u can get the system back in this way, then great, otherwise u can always do a Repair :)

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP:

Or this site explains a Repair with pics: (Click on How To Run a Repair Install)

!! GOOD LUCK !!

Hi... Still I could not log in normal to Windows XP or through Safe Mode. I tried every possible solution of editing the registry & deleting the RUN list, unfortunately nothing helped.
