In a Win 98 computer, Norton Antivirus stopped checking my outgoing e-mail (and therefore sending it). I've unistalled Norton AV. I can not send e-mail (nor get any connection via telnet to port 25 to my SMTP server). All other ports handle OK (Web,POP,FTP, ...). Uninstalled all Network protocol and adapters and reinstalled... didn't work.

Any idea to make available SMTP again?

Thanx, all you wise guys!

are you using a router or software firewall? if software firewall, disable it and try again. if router, log into router and make sure you are not blocking that port. check your host file. i use spybot for that. do you have norton personal firewall? if so remove it. is your ISP and your internet provider the same? if not you may need to change your out going mail server. do a search for port programs. there is one called openports. it might help.

No, I don't use a firewall neither a router. I have internet thru Cable Modem conected via Ethernet (Cable Modem is DHCP server), but the problem appears as well when I use a Tel modem and my dial-up conection.

I've checked my hosts files and are OK.

I can use 2 SMTP servers from different providers (one is from a Web hosting provider and does need for POP reading before SMTP sending for SPAM control, I can do POP to that server but no SMTP).

I will do a Port Search with Port Explorer. Hope to find some thing.

Any way... this is strange!

Any other idea?

Thanx

My Dear Guru,

Yes, My IP start with 192.168.X.X which means it's a private network. My Cablemodem uses DHCP for IP assignation, but its task include IP NAT.
I've installed Mc Affe after all problems started, so it is not its fault.

Nevetheless, I have done what I didn't wanted to: Re-install my whole computer. It took me the whole weekend, but now it is working OK (mostly! jaja).

It was once again the strange behavior of the operating system, (thank you, Microsoft! jaja)

Thank you for your time and effort, I think you deserve all the points of my question.
