Intermittent Power on Problems

I am having trouble with a desktop computer. It will power on some times, other times it will not power on.

I have taken several steps to reslove this problem, but to no avail.

Step one: Replace power supply and test for funtionality. Problem persists

Step two: Replace motherboard and test. Problem still persists.

Step three: Try new swtich and test... problem is still present.

I am completely lost on this one and could use some help or some ideas to try.

Motherboard is an intel 845EBG2

Try taking the motherboard out of the case, and strip it of peripherals and cards.  You may have a motherboard shorting against the case, or bad connectors, or faulty PCI cards.

Thank you for your quick reply.

All cards save the video card are removed there are no IDE or Floppy cables attached either. Unfortunately I still get the same result.

Now, when you say shorting against the case... what does this mean?
