right click your my computer and click properties.
click the advanced tab
click the start up and recovery settings button
click the system startup edit button
it should read something like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professsion" /fastdetect
or similar

if it says multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professsion" /fastdetect /noguiboot

remove the /noguiboot part

Also DO NOT ALTER the start part to match mine, leave your multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professsion" section as is..
this is telling windows which controller/disk/partition windows is on, windows decided all this when it was installed, changing that part would make ur system not boot.

if that scares u goto the run box and type msconfig
goto the boot.ini tab and untick /noguiboot
altho I dislike this way due to problems it has with dualbooting :s

If /noguiboot isnt on already then you may have killed ur winlogon.exe (i think thats where it is) perhaps with a 3rd party theming program, which has changed the file..

Have you recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 2?  This changes the boot logo screen to one which just says "Windows XP" and doesn't mention Home or Professional.  If that's the case, did your XPSP2 install go ok, or did it generate any errors?

Regards,
Mark.
