FM Server v5.5 on Windows XP Pro?

I was wondering if it was possible to run FileMaker server version 5.5
on Windows XP professional? I work for a nonprofit with about eight
really old computers running FileMaker version 5.5.  We really want to
centralize our database but we don't have the money to purchase new
computers so there's no way we can upgrade to FileMaker version 7.  Of
course, we don't have much money for the server computer either so I'm
trying to spec out something which will offer passable performance
(most of us have 200 MHz Pentium I computers so I don't think the
performance bottleneck will be the server!)

Here is the computer I was planning on purchasing:

AMD Athlon 2800+
512 MB RAM
40 GB 7200 rpm hard drive
Windows XP professional
10/100/1000 Ethernet NIC

will this work?

no problem. the 5.5 server does not need much. I have one running on a p2/400, 128MB ram, 6 years old.
the OS can also be w2k pro. so yr stuff is almost too much!

Great, it works on w2k pro.  The main question is will it work on WinXP pro?

Though I am not using it personnaly, Filemaker was stating it is compatible. Its service only relies on TCP/IP, no other OS service, so all you need is to make sure the XP built in firewall is either off or at least set port 5003 open for Fm clients to connect to the server.
