Is BigFix safe to run on my computer?

I just purchased a spankin new emachines computer with "BigFix" available on it.  Is it safe to run this thing?  Is it a good thing?  Sorry if this is an ignorant sounding question, but, i am as well.

and abt useful, well it depends on ur needs, if u want to know abt the latest security updates and their details automatically, then its useful for u, otherwise for a person like me, who wants to control everything manually, its just a waste of hard space ;-)
