PNG file variations

I need a summary listing of the permuations of PNG types. By this I mean versions (is there such a thing?), bit depth, alpha/no alpha. The reason I need this is I am supporting a Macromedia Authorware production effort. Some desktops importing .PNG files are later found to have numerous corrupt images - while other desktops rarely or never have an issue.

I don't know too much about the PNG format myself, but here is a link to a site which has everything you'd want to know about it.

http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/

I hope this helps.
