After upgrade Exchange SP1 on Win2003 incomming and outgoing mail got stuck

The server is an Windows 2003 SBS, with Exchange included, running as standalone system (it's alse the PDC) in a small office environment.
It has 8 local users and retrieves mail by POP3 connector, routing it out to local mailboxes
Mail in return is delivered to the providers SMTP server.

It all ran fine, till we upgraded the system, meanwhile however, the DNS server has been through maintanance, just to clear out some misconfigurations.

We see that the POP3 connector retieves the mail, but got it stuck in queue "Local delivery"
Going over the trace for incomming mail: "SMTP:Message Delivered to Retry Local Delivery"

The outgoing mail got stuck in the queue "Messages awaiting directory lookup"
Going over the trace for outgoing mail, it says: "SMTP:Message Scheduled to retry Categorization"

Any clue where I need to look at?

Kind regards,   Frans.

OK,

found solution in the fact that the update did mis one file, which caused a service to stop, Event log file Application showed the following error:
"Initialization of external interface WIN32 failed; Error ecVersionMismatch-MAPI_E_VERSION."

This part where it shows the version mismatch has been seen after the upgrade, so initiated the upgrade again, and watched it closely, file was updated without any problem, server works again.

Kind regards,

Frans.
