Trying to install a program for construction billing that uses crystal reports on a XP Pro workstation.  It gets right to the very end of the install and comes up with a 1904 error module c:\****.dll failed to register.  If I ignore the install comes up with the same error for multiple dll files.

Already ran sfc (system file check) - still getting error.

What to do, What to do?

Hello paleface =)

Can u plzz name some of those dll files abt which u are getting these errors, it will help me to determine that with which program these dlls are associated and may be reinstallation of that software can solve the issue !!

e.g when we get those errors abt these dll files, we normally have to reinstall MDAC to get the issue resolved >> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=279223

Also are u sure that the program u are trying to install is compatible with WinXP and works fine in other XP systems ??

Thanks,

I tried upgrading the MDAC.

I am going to try now a different machine to see what happens.  The program is supposed to be compatible.

I should have posted that I had already tried MDAC prior to posting here.

The program did install on an older computer running the same os ... any ideas why it won't install on a newer computer with the same os and service packs?

nah nah,,,,, i gave MDAC for just an example.... it was required for the files
C:\Program Files\System\Ole DB\MSDAORA.DLL and C:\Program Files\System\Ole DB\MSRCLR40.DLL
coz these dlls are related to MDAC !
so we can guess from looking at these dlls that we need to reinstall MDAC !!

that's why i asked u abt the names of those dlls for which u are getting those errors, so that i can guess the software related to those dlls, then we can try to reinstall it !!

ofcourse MDAC is not the case with u,,,,, it was just an example for u to understand the problem happening with ur system :)

Thanks for the assistance

I am on the East coast and got chased out of that office due to being an hour past closing time.  I can't get back there until early next week.  I have a better idea now of what the problem is ... may be a conflict with an older version ... even though this was supposedly an upgrade installation.

But the first 1904 error was tied to the keycode.dll not registering.  The next was in the crystal decisions\2.0\ ?? directory and I do not have the info on the exact .dll in front of me, nor can I get to it until the office reopens.

Have a good'n

I uninstalled, but if you ask me the uninstall didn't do much - the program files were still there... which leads me to believe the registry entries are too.  Still won't install.

Well I found a solution ... its not the one I wanted, and I can't explain why other attempts at repair would not work - so it is going to bug me ... but reinstalling OS (not wiping and formatting) allows the program to now install.

And glad to meet you SheharyaarSaahil - I'm sure I'll be needing assistance in the future.

Thanks for the help

I had same issue while installing Crystal Reports 10. I have tried to reinstall MDAC and it didnt work. Ignoring the error message and reinstalling the CR 10 solved the issue.

As many of you have mentioned it before, it has to do with corrupt registry. I would suggest reinstalling the OS if my solution doesnt help you.
