Duplicate Devcice Problem

Hi there,

Got a small problem (hopeit's small anyway). My dad has just put a new Creative CDROM in the computer, which also has a Creative CD/RW, but when he connected it up and installed the drivers when the PC rebooted it stated that there were duplicate devices.

Now the computer is not reading the CD/RW, and the CD/RW is connected as slave device.

Kind regards

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If they are connected to the same cable, make sure one is master and the other is slave.

If you need to, boot into safe mode by hitting F8 at startup and then go into device manager and remove all the cd-rom entries and then reboot and let it redetect them.

You may also need to go into safe mode, click Start, Run and type in 'regedit'. Remove all CDROM entries you find in there before the problem is resolved.
