Threads and Proccess

ok heres a two part question.
Part1:
  i am doing a program and want to use threads but have never attempted to use threads, what are some good sites that explane threads for visual
  c++ 2003 with mfc?

Part2:
  the program also runs off other programs "daemons" and i would like to know if anyone knows how to or documentation on how to get proccess
  and send them a message when a even happens. ex. daemon (witch i dont have the code for) gives an error message, i want to say MB_OK and
  just log the message with my program is there any way to do this?

Thanks for all the help on ee :D   100 points for each part = 200 points total
