Is there a screen capture program that records what i do on the screen and saves it as some type of video file?

Actually Woodendude I just notice you pointed him towards Snagit, thats for screen captures not video captures.

Camtasia is it's name, its pretty good too and has quite good video compression rates after you record.

It has been a couple of years since I used it ya know, i always used to use Camtasia.  I guess thats why they have taken Camtasia down the route that it comes with video editing tools, now I bet Snagit does not have editing tools?

Heh don't answer that I don't want to know if it has or not :P  But jakekula o may want to know from you :)

 jakekula, here's the editing part of the snagit tour, I use Snagit 6, this is 7, Snagit comes with snagit and snagit studio which is where your editing is done.
