I have a shared Okipage 24DX printer attached to LPT1 on my Windows Server 2003 Small Business Server.  Intermittently we get garbage printed out in the course of printing other documents.  I've isolated my testing to the server only.  I've tried using both the Okidata driver and the Microsoft driver both provided with SBS 2003 OEM.  It has been suggested that my printer may have bad memory but I am skeptical because I've never had bad printer memory before (although I don't usually work with Okipage/Okidata printers either).  I'm looking for feedback on this problem.  I'm leaning towards a hardware issue but I'm not sure what else might be causing the problem.

Bad parallel printer cable?
Bad parallel port? (it is a new HP server)
BIOS settings on server?

It could be a bad cable, but other things are possible too. Are you using the PCL or the PostScript driver? With PostScript the parallel port can cause problems if the driver is set to send the data as binary or if a document contains binary data (e.g. EPS images these days usually contain binary)

Can youI get me some idea what  the grabage looks likey if any of it is readable text, please copy/paste a few lines of it into a reply and I'll have a look at it.

It has come down to likely being a bad cable or hardware failure.  Thanks and points to hdhondt for being the only person offering feedback on this question.  Thanks again!
