"unicows.dll" is not working

I am getting a warning whenever I open Outlook Express. It says that "unicows.dll" is not working and it loads without MSN Messenger.

I went to Microsoft's web site and downloaded "unicows.exe" in a page written in english (even though my operational system is in portuguese, because I could not find a portuguese version of the english page with a portuguese version of the english software "unicows.exe").

The page did not tell me where to extract the files in "unicows.exe", so I extracted them to C:\Windows\System, but it did not work. I got the "unicows.dll" error again when I tried to open Outlook Express, so I extracted it to the Desktop and deleted the files in the system folder that had the same names as the new files in the Desktop.

I tried installing MSN Messenger 6.2 in the same language as it had been installed before, but it said the file was corrupted. I was offered the option to restore MSN Messenger 6.2 when I tried to uninstall it, so I chose that, but it did not work. I got the "unicows.dll" error again when I tried to open Outlook Express.

What should I do now?

I am having another problem. The icons at  the desktop of shortcuts used to have arrow images. Now, they have images that look to me like black and white clocks.
