Unable to send message with subject

I am having a very strange problem.  I'm runing xp home service pack2.  The problem was there before I upgraded.

When I try to send a message in outlook express I get the following error.

The message could not be sent

An error has occured

If I don't put in a subject I can send the message just fine.

 I have tried reinstalling just outlook express and the whole Ie 6 program before I upgraded to SP 2 but nothing has helped.

Strange.

Does the same error happen if you send to anyone with subjet or only certain email address ?

Go to tools --> options --> send and change you mail sending format to see if that would help .

Is "Message could not be sent " the exact error message you are getting or something with number ?

Can you reply to an email that came with a subject or this happens only while you compose a new email ?

It happens with all e-mail addresses, new and all in address book

The mail format does not matter, i changed it and it still does the same thing

There are not number in the error, the exact error is as stated above

           "The message could not be sent

              An error has occured"

So very helpful I know.

It happens even when I reply to a message.

I've been looking all over for an answer and still haven't found a thing.

Can you try to recreate the email account (delete it and create it again) to see if that would help

Also go to tools --> options --> maintainence --> store folder
check the path
close OE
go to that path
rename outbox.dbx as outbox_old.dbx
restart the machine
reopen OE
check now if you can send ..

BTW, do you get that error message in the send and receive dialog box ?

I'll try the suggestion over lunch

The error message comes up as soon as I click on the send button in the compostion screen

renaming the outbox did the trick.
