This Oracle Client crashes trying to  connect to the server.
Other versions of client (8.1.7 and 9.2.0) work properly from the same client computer.

Go to StartMenu->Run->type cmd

In the command window that opens up...type your logon command

c>sqlplus scott/tiger@tmp1

If the sqlplus application aborts, the command window will stay open..and check for any error messages there

"Other versions of client (8.1.7 and 9.2.0) work properly from the same client computer." - so why you want to use there 8.0.6 client ?

No, this line from the on-line help "About"

PL/SQL Verzia 8.0.6.3.0 (Produkcia)

only means that PL/SQL version embeded in Forms is 8.0.6  - some new features of Oracle databases 8i or 9i don't work - but it does't tell nothing about Oracle database CLIENT !

I recommend you at first istall a client and after that install Forms and Reports.

Thanks for recommendation.
But one more question - doesn't forms install their own client?

I don't know. There are some *.dll which can be older than those coming with Oracle 8i client and that is why Oracle recommends to install Forms and Reports after installing Oracle 8i client.

We've just tryed to install Oracle Forms 6i and Oracle Client 8.1.7 into the same Oracle home.
Oracle Forms 6i can not be installed into Oracle client 8.1.7 home and vice versa.

It seems to me very strange because I have this - Oracle 8i client and Forms6i (patch12) and Reports6i and also Designer6i in the same oracle home:
C:\OraNT\
with subdirectories:
BIN
...
FORMS60
GRAPH60
...
REPORT60
...

on Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.1295
Service Pack 3

Huh, I don't know ... I know only that at first it was Oracle client installed and Forms at the end.
But if it cannot work so I think that you must install to the separate homes.

We found a solution of that problem at leats in metalink:

Note:260893.1 Unicode character sets in the Oracle database

http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_id=260893.1&p_database_id=NOT

Problem was that Oracle client prior to 9.0 doesn't support database characterset AL32UTF8.
Instead UTF8 should be used.
