I reloaded windows home edition, and MS Office onto a machine that had a bad boot sector. after restarting I could not find the  outlook express address book. I looked in my docs and settings/"name"/localsettings/applicationdata/identities. there are a bunch of dbx files there, but the contacts file is only 59kb. I don't know how to do anything with these files to recover them.

Hi wjhughes420384,

Have you searched for *.WAB file ?

You may want to use this program

yes, i looked for *.wab files, I found some that looked like they were created with the re-install one was 179kb, (don't know if that implies many addresses) I tried to import from these files and nothing showed up.

How many WAB files you have

Open outlook express
click on address book
go to file --> import and try importing that WAB file to see what you get

i tried the oemailrecovery tool(at least the free download) it did not seem to recover any addresses, it appeared to work, warned me that it would only show me the first ten addresses it kept the warning window up and showed an address book behind it, but no addresses ever came up there.

there are two .wab files,  when I reinstalled windows, i put windows in a separate directory called windows1 to try to preserve all the windows data we had in the previous installation. I set it up with two users and the two .wab files appear under the new user names.

wjhughes420384,

Did you happen to check here
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\*.wab.

I would think the program oemailrecovery woud have to be purchased to get all the email data

I understand that it would have to be purchased to get all the data, but it did not show the 1st ten like it said it could. and i could only look at the .wab files that were created under the new user names which I would expect to be blank.

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\*.wab.

This should be the standard path where wab should be . Since you reloaded, i would think the data under your username
would have got lost.

May be programs here might help
