Win XP error 1935

I'm getting: Error 1935. The error occurred during installation of assembly 'Microsoft.MSXML2,publicKeyToken="6bd6b9abf345378f",version=4.1..0.0,type="win32",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more...

This occurred after uninstalling Hallmark Card Studio 2004 Deluxe, followed by trying to open Broderbund Print Shop 20. The program opens and desplays card graphics but text inserted by me at an earlier time doesn't show (a small 'squiggly' appears). Their help message says may have too many fonts so uninstalled about 50 of them with no luck.

I used System Restore to go to an earlier checkpoint but no luck. Same with reboot. Same problem opening Print Shop 15 but an old Print Shop Deluxe works ok.

This error is normally attributed to the Windows Installer Service. You should download and install version 2.0. This has been documented to resolve the issue that you are experiencing.

You can download Windows Installer version two from the following website (this is the full download):

http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/default.htm?p=/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/psdkredist.htm

Or you can try the following:

Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows 95, 98, and Me
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&DisplayLang=en

Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4b6140f9-2d36-4977-8fa1-6f8a0f5dca8f&DisplayLang=en

What version of Windows do you have? If it is Windows XP, go to the Windows Update site, select "custom install" then select the option "review other updates" and check if Installer version 2 is listed (I think it may come by default with Windows XP SP1a or SP2).

First uninstall Printshop 15,
Then proceed resolve the problem, follow these steps:
If the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 is installed on your computer, remove the .NET Framework 1.0:
Open Control Panel.
If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click Add/Remove Programs. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
In the Add/Remove Programs or Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft .NET Framework (English) v1.0.3705.
d. If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, click Remove. If you are using Windows Server 2003, click Change/Remove.
In the %WINDIR% \Microsoft.NET\Framework folder, right-click the v1.0.3705 folder, and then click Delete to delete the v1.0.3705 folder.

Note %WINDIR% is a placeholder for the path to the folder where the Microsoft Windows operating system is installed on your computer.
Use the Msizap.exe utility to remove the Windows Installer information for the .NET Framework 1.0.
Obtain the Msizap.exe utility. To do this, download the Microsoft Windows Installer Software Development Kit (SDK).

For more information about how to download the Windows Installer SDK, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/

Follow these steps to use the Msizap.exe utility:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.
At the command prompt, change the current directory path to the directory where the Msizap.exe utility of the Windows Installer SDK is located.
At the command prompt, run the following command:
Msizap TP {B43357AA-3A6D-4D94-B56E-43C44D09E548}

Note
B43357AA-3A6D-4D94-B56E-43C44D09E548 is the product code for the .NET Framework 1.0.
Special user rights are not required to use the Msizap.exe utility on a Microsoft Windows 95, a Microsoft Windows 98, or a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) operating system. However, administrative credentials are required to use the Msizap.exe utility on a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, a Microsoft Windows 2000, or a Microsoft Windows XP operating system.
Close the command prompt.
Re-install the .NET Framework 1.0.

To download the .NET Framework 1.0, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d7158dee-a83f-4e21-b05a-009d06457787

Install Printshop 15 again.

If that fails, then do these steps, then repeat the above steps again.
To stop Windows Installer, follow these steps:
Open Control Panel .
Double-click Administrative Tools .
Double-click Services .
Right-click the Windows Installer service.
Click Stop .

GOOD LUCk!!!

Engineerdell: The SDK update requires Core SDK and between them, it's over 1 gigabytes of data. Is that the track you want me to pursue or am I on the wrong track?

I would suggest you to go ahead and try with Framework 1.0 or 1.1, if that fails then install Core SDK..

Please don't close this problem.

PS 15 is now running fine (uninstall, reinstall) but PS 20 fails installation. The messages seem to relate to PS so will contact Broderbund again before returning to this problem.

Let's close this one and award the points to LeeTutor. I finally gave up, unintalled Print Shop 20 and am using PS 15. The truth of the matter is I have been so busy helping others with their computer problems I couldn't find time to concentrate on my own.
Thanks.

Well, as I contributed only a couple of administrative comments as Page Editor to the question, it certainly shouldn't be awarded to me.  I'll go back to my original recommendation of PAQ with no points refunded.

Like a Phoenix, I am arisen from the ashes...
The holidays gave me time to tackle this again so here is new input.
My machine had both Microsoft .net Framework 1.0 and 1.1 installed. I followed LeeTuror's recommendations(dealing with 1.0 only) but stopped short of turning off Windows Installer Service.

I also found a technote  (#37312) at Broderbund that explained how to uninstall Print Shop 15 if uninstall problems occured. I followed it and PS 15 seems to be deleted. A similar technote for PS 20 was much briefer and basically said to delete the folder under C:\Program Files, then reinstall PS 20. Unfortunately, the install program said there  "is evidence of a previous installation of PS 20 which should be dealt with first." Broderbund's tech help is off until Tuesday but I will contact them as the next step (they have obviously had prior problems in this area).
