The following error appears in the Application log:

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:      LoadPerf
Event Category:      None
Event ID:      3009
Date:            10/7/2004
Time:            1:46:15 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:      TAZ7
Description:
Installing the performance counter strings for service Outlook (Outlook) failed. The Error code is the first DWORD in Data section.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:
0000: 05 00 00 00 b3 11 00 00   ....³...

The error repeats every few minutes.  I have no idea what's causing it or how to stop it, but I'd sure like to.  Thoughts?

I looked there, but nothing seemed directly relevant.  As it turned out, this fixed it:

Delete the registry key HKLM\System\Current Control Set\Services\Outlook\Performance

Since it turned out that the site had some relevant info, I'll award you the solution.
