want to to a insert

ssql = "INSERT INTO tblhotel (hotelname) VALUES (" & Me.txthotelname & ")"

and just get a missing operator error

You have to properly delimit me!txthotelname as a string with single quotes, like so:

ssql = "INSERT INTO tblhotel (hotelname) VALUES ('" & Me.txthotelname & "')"
                                                                        ^^                                ^^
                                                                     here                             and here
