Accessing an FTP Server Through a Netopia Cayman 3546 Gateway on my Home Network

I cannot get a file listing from an FTP Server used by my Church's WEB Site since installing a Netopia Cayman 3546 Gateway.   I am using port 21 on FTP Explorer, which worked fine with a USB DSL modem that did not have a Firewall.  I can log onto the FTP Server,  but cannot get a file listing.  I tried setting up a pinhole on the gateway using port 21, and the IP Address of my primary computer.  But it did not solve the problem.

You can use a passive conection, which means that your ftp client asks the server to send back the response on the control channel that it opens, or you can open the pinhole for port 20 as well (this is the ftp-data port.

to see the port number listings, look at:  http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers

Port Assignments:

Keyword         Decimal    Description                     References
-------         -------    -----------                     ----------
ftp-data         20/tcp    File Transfer [Default Data]
ftp-data         20/udp    File Transfer [Default Data]
ftp              21/tcp    File Transfer [Control]
ftp              21/udp    File Transfer [Control]

your web browser may use the passive port by default.  try:

ftp://yourchurch.org  as a URL in your browser.
