Have a look for a file called reboot.bat in your QB program folder and run it; this will re-register certain files. Then try a manual update again.

QB2001 is not being updated any more so turn off automatic updates anyway, and once it gets to R6, that's it.

If that doesn't work, re-install QB over the existing installation, and repeat the manual update.

Mike

-when I run the reboot.bat i get the following error message. any clues.

--------------------------
qbdagent2001.exe - Unable To Locate Component
---------------------------
This application has failed to start because msjava.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

You could also try backing up your data file carefully, uninstalling then re-installing, and manually updating.

qbdagent is the program which runs the upgrades. You can disable it from running at startup, so that should get rid of the error message. Also when your program is running, go to File, Update Quickbooks, and turn off the auto option.
