Personal folders don't close properly - task list bug?

Outlook 2002 on XP Pro: when I close Outlook without closing the reminders window I usually get an error on startup saying the personal folders did not close properly and must be checked for errors. Is this a known problem? Is there anything I can do about it?

When I close the reminders window (that shows my outstanding tasks to do) before I close outlook, I don't get an error the next morning?!

On no occasion have I had reason to believe outlook otherwise did not shut down properly. I've also run pst check etc. and found no errors.

Any suggestion much appreciated.

That error comes because outlook sees that you have not closed the reminder window and assumes there was some issue with itself so reminder window got shutdown for some reason instead of being closed by the user.

Basically , this is by design.

You can also go to help menu and Do a "detect and repair" and check for issues.

So do I always have to manually shut the reminder window before shutting down my PC? I can do this with an elaboration on:

shutdown -s -t 1

adding a process to kill the tasks window first.

This strikes me as clunky!

Have you tried to kill the process outlook.exe.. Even then it might behave the same way as it might be designed to see if the X close button is clicked before outlook closes..

Do you think this functionality is good?

Admittedly this is only my second gripe with outlook but both are really niggling me!

I guess we are trying to do something which MS has not worked on or didnot bother to .

What do you plan to do with that 'shutdown' command...

I tried to kill the outlook process but outlook doesn't like that!
This means to close the task window before shutdown a script would have to bring focus to that window. The only way I know to do that is in VBA and there you need to know the name of the window for it to get focus. Except in the case of reminders I never know how many are there: if its 2, 3, 4 reminders still open, so I don't know the window name...

Anyway points are yours!
