ML370 1702 SCSI Error

Proliant ML370.

I'm trying to setup a external tape drive.

I have a smart array 3200 controller in slot 1 with raid 5 for the drives. and A compaq integrated Ultra2 Scsi Controller.

I want to use the Ultra2 Scsi controlller. what could be making this error...

Most of the time, this kind of error is referring to any chanel conflict.

As far as I can understand, you are trying to install an external SCSI controller that you can use with the internal...
If this is the case, unfortunately, you cannot !

If you read the manual :
"...External SCSI port 1 and internal SCSI port 1 are the same port. Because the port cannot be used for both internal and external devices at the same time, disconnect any devices connected to the internal SCSI port 1 connector, including the terminated SCSI cable, before connecting external SCSI port 1 to an external device..."

i resolved it  by moving  cable onto slot 2
