converting text data into charts

hi i'm using debian linux 3.0

I would like to ask whether or not is there a simple program
that i can use or a programming language that i can use
to convert text data into bar charts (whichever is easier)

Any suggestions and/or inputs will be appreciated

is there anything simpler than gnuplot?
There is some time constraint on my side and i need something that shows me
sample codes and outputs rather than mostly theory-based

Anyway thanks for the links u provided :)
