converting text data into charts

hi i'm using debian linux 3.0

I would like to ask whether or not is there a simple program
that i can use or a programming language that i can use
to convert text data into bar charts (whichever is easier)

Any suggestions and/or inputs will be appreciated

And here are some samples for bar graphs: http://t16web.lanl.gov/Kawano/gnuplot/intro/style-e.html#boxes

is there anything simpler than gnuplot?
There is some time constraint on my side and i need something that shows me
sample codes and outputs rather than mostly theory-based

Anyway thanks for the links u provided :)

Here are a few more links. I took a quick look, and I don't think I'm familiar with any of the programs: http://entropy.brneurosci.org/linuxsetup62.html

And here is some more information about Xmgrace: http://entropy.brneurosci.org/linuxsetup66.html

Here is a Perl module to create PostScript graphs: http://search.cpan.org/~cpwillmot/PostScript-Graph-1.02/Graph/Bar.pm
