Hi all,

When a LAN admin being asked to do some coding, is a real messup. With every keyboard key I press, I whisper F**k you chief.......... lol...

Anyway, I have 2 questions.

1-   I wrote a small script to initiate database variables, so it can be excuted automaticaly once a user opens the database. where shall I place such script ?

2-   When I create a form and specify it as Response, would it work like the original form, I mean, if I create a view to list the documents created with the parent form, what shall I do to tell Notes that such document have Responses created with another form and they shall be listed under original form also? is it possible ? or shall Parent and Response have the same form ? I'm sorry if my question is confusing, but I'll try harder to explain it if it's not clear.

Kindest Regards.

1) In database scripts.

2) Yes. it is possible.
In the view, after selection formula place this
Select form="formname" & @ALLchildrren
or u can use @AllDescendents for response to response.

and few more details:
1) It depends on what youa re doing. If u let us know, we should be able to tell u, where to place the code and when to execute.

2) it will work as original form and u can display the response in views using the below said formulas. For more info, check Designer help on these formulas.
SELECT Form="YourFormname" | @AllDescendants

or
SELECT Form="YourFormname" | @AllChildren

Hey madheeswar.... hope u r doing great.

1-   I've created a form like a Setup for database, that list the company name, path to server and another database cause I'm expecting the database to go to another companies and I didn't want to hardcode those values, each company can change them to suit their environment without going into the script, so I need current database to pick up those values and place them in memory. I did this script but I don't know where to place it exactly so it can be excuted automaticaly, for the variables to be available all the time.

2-   Does Parent and Response should have the same form ? and if so, how shall I tell parent form that it have responses ? What i did now exactly, that I created parent form, and another form for responses, but till now I couldn't try it since I'm playing with live data, which kinda risky.. u know....

Many thanks...

Sorry...

let me clear it more.

The parent form holds the information for Staff member, and the first response, should have his spouse info (if available), then rest of responses depends on how many kids (dependants) he/she have, so the view should list staff member, and under him/her should spouse and kids be listed. Why we doing this, cause each one of them have medical insurance and when any of them claim something for mediacal, Personnel section should fill a form for either Staff member, Spouse or dependants, so users should be able to select the name from view and click a botton called CREATE MIP.

Hope this made it a bit clearer.

for second:

response document may not be the same as Parent form. So, u can use the formula wich I have given.
for first:

you can store the setup in profile documents. if it is per user. or u can create a master profile and store them in a view if it is for all users. And u can prompt setup in Database scripts Postopen event. open the form.
