MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows.

Hello,

We had a hard disk problem recently. We managed to recover the system and install a new hard drive without reloading Windows. We did have to repair Win XP though.

We are now having problems opening files for Simply accounting and thier web site suggests that we install MDAC 2.8.

When I try and install MDAC 2.8, I get the following error :

MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible with this version of Windows. All of its features are currently part of Windows.

I have SP2 installed as well as all the latest Windows updates. This is XP Pro.

Amy help would be much apreciated.

Thanks
Phil

Visit MS support and read MS Knowledge Base Article: #828396 published: 04 August 03 on MDAC_Typ.exec. It seems MDAC 2.8 contains core Data Access Components such as MS SQL server OLE DB provider and ODBC drivers.

Thanks both for you input but I had already looked at both those links.

I have resolved the issue now.

I tried to remove SP2 which failed so I did an OS repair from the XP CD which took XP back to the point before SP2. When I tried to run the install for MDAC 2.8 it worked OK. I then updated the OS to SP2 and Simply Accounting is now able to open the data files fine.
