Problem witih Attachments using Yahoo email

1. I have a user that uses his machine to check his personal yahoo email. When sending an email from his computer he is unable to attach any files of any size. If he logs into his account on any other machine he is able to attach a file to his without any problems.

Has the user checked if he/she can attach files from a different computer ?

Can he use a different browser and see if he can attach a file

Make sure to temporarily disable pop-up blocker and see if that would help

Make sure to delete temporary internet files , cookies and check if that would help

When did this issue start ?

I will ask the user and get back to you. If the user is not available right now I  will get back to you when I can. What I know is that he first made me aware of the issue about two months ago. He asked me if i had any idea what would cause this problem. I loaned him a second computer and he is able to send attachements with his yahoo account on that computer. I asked him if I could get my computer back and he remided me I have not fixed his problem with  yahoo and his attachments on his computer so he wants to keep both computers until I can fix the probelm.:):).. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on where to start on this one, I would greatly appreciate it.. I will more than like not be able to start until the user returns to  work in six hours or so...

Thanks!!

First of all I'd see what exactly is the problem. Are you unable to open the upload page? Are you unable to select the fiel to upload? Are you unable to uplaod the file? Do you have a problem seeing the uplaoded file? Attachmnts are not really being sent? What exactly is teh problem? Tell us the problem and we will be able to help much better.
Here what happens step by step...

1. The user logs into his yahoo email account - By the way this problem has nothing to do with the user. This will happen if I try my account. or if the user logs into his yahoo account.

2. He selects the "compose" mail option.

3. He selects the "attachments" option.

3. He select "attach" to start the load file process.

4. He receives the following error:

There was a problem:

There was a temporary problem uploading your file. Please try again in a few minutes.

Has the user checked if he/she can attach files from a different computer ? Yes. He can attach file on a different computer.

Can he use a different browser and see if he can attach a file ? I installed netscape and it works fine

Make sure to temporarily disable pop-up blocker and see if that would help? I disabled pop up blocker and it still does not work

Make sure to delete temporary internet files , cookies and check if that would help - I ran the clean disk function to delete temp files and I deleted cookies and temp file under the internet options.

Thanks in advance for your help

YOu have not given which browser you use. That is a critical piece of information in such question. I assume you use Internet Explorer.

Please clean your system once. Get rid of all the cookies in your system and restart it. Use a cookie crusher program if needed to get rid of all the cookies be 100% gurantee. Make sure you have not changed your Temporary Internet Files location. Many a times, if you change your Temporary Internet Files location, and if you do not have enough persmission on that folder, this may happen.

Enable cookies from your browser's TOOLS?Options. Now login to Yahoo and don't save your password. Now try it again.

Let us know if you still face a problem.

Microsoft Corporation - Internet Explorer Version 6.00.2600.0000

I deleted the cookies by selecting "delete cookies" under internet options on the menu

I will have to look up cookie crusher on the internet; nerver heard of it. Do you know where I can find it?

I will compare this machine with another machine. All of our images are the same.

The user is home for today. I will check these items and post my results tomorrow. If you can think of anything else please feel free to post. It is 9:12PM in Iraq right now...

thanks!

Thanks,
Never mind the Cookie Crusher. You should be fine even by manually deleting it. Also verify that your Temporary Internet Files folder is actually EMPTY after you clean it.

Hi guys,

Even I am facing the same problem, but the thing is that this user is not getting the error, just when she click on the attach and browse and select the file want to attach the status bar comes and it keeps running for long but nothing happens.

Pls. help me as user is on my head

This time last week I had two computers with this same issue. One of the computers was my computer. I used the  "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" instructions above on both computers. My computer is working now, I can send attachments using yahoo, I am still having the same problem with the second computer.

Thanks,
ex_hemant and tqtclipper:

Hi!  Could you please provide the following information:

1.  Operating system and service packs / hotfixes that may have been applied
2.  Browser and browser version
3.  Are you accessing the internet via dial-up modem or through LAN?
4.  Is the problem computer logged in a domain or workgroup setting?
5.  Are you using a proxy server?  If yes, what proxy server (i.e. ISA, Proxy Server 2.0, WinGate)?
6.  Are you using any firewall software (i.e. Sygate, Norton, ZoneAlarm)?
7.  Try using the Mozilla browser and see if you encounter the same problem.

Regards!
Its win2k and updated,
brower is I.E. 6 sp1
internet through lan
computer is in a domain
proxy server is IWSS i.e. trendmicro internet web security server
no firewall
and IF i login rediffmail or gmail I can easily attach files this problem with the yahoo mail only.
I checked with 'Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections' but that didnt helped me.

I wanted solve the problem asap.
I went back to check the second computer and I think the problem is solved. I think the suggention that I got from Comment from cqpanis3  feedback
Date: 10/26/2004 11:32PM PDT was the solution. Now I just need to convince the use that his yahoo email works fine. I went to his system, he was not in the office, so I logged in, went to yahoo,   go into my account and sent a test message to myself with an attachment and everything worked successfully. I am going to close the question once I can get the user to confirm that his issue is resolved.  As far as ex_hemant  problem I hope it gets resolved. I also hope that the solution gets posted.

Thanks cqpanis3 for  your posting!! I think it was the soultion that I was looking for.
My problem was not exactly same as tqtclipper was facing, he was getting some error but in case of mine I dont find any error in fact that progress bar keeps running but file doesnt get attached.

helpppppppp!!!!!
Did you try any of the suggestions that were posted for me above (e.g. try using a different browser like netscape)?
It's nice to hear that tqtclipper's problem is already solved.

As for ex_hemant's, please try to disable the Webmail scan of your proxy server.  It may be possible that the webmail scanning feature of TrendMicro is conflicting with the antivirus scanner of Yahoo! mail.

After disabling the webmail scan feature, try to restart IE before loading Yahoo mail again.

Let us know if this solves the problem.

additional info:

IWSS scans all files being uploaded through HTTP.  When you attach a file in a Yahoo mail, you upload it through HTTP.  So it's a big possibility that this causes conflict with Yahoo's antivirus engine.  I do not know how, but try to disable the upload scanning of IWSS and see if the Yahoo mail attachment works.
Dear Cqpanis3 ,

If its a problem of IWSS then that user shuld'nt be able to send a mail from any machine in the network but that is not the case.  She face problem only while working on her machine.  Congrats to tqtclipper as his problem has solved.  But after applyin same solution still am facing the problem
Pls help.
