Hello all!

I'm using windows 2003. I want to do the following things:

a logical drive on the server named  : "lecturers"
and in the logical drive a sub directories with quota and password for each lecturer. for example:
Prof. David
Dr. Guy

and so on.
How do I create the logical drive, , the quota , the password for each directory ,and how do I access it from the network?

Thanks,
Eyal

Hi Eyal,

To create a logical drive, go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.  Once the window for Computer Management opens, in  the left pane under Storage, click on Disk Management and then follow the instructions from the following link:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/hard_drives_08.htm

Keep in mind that to use disk quotas your volume needs to be NTFS.

To set disk quotas:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/standard/proddocs/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/windowsserv/2003/standard/proddocs/en-us/nt_quota_enable.asp

Now for the last two parts of your question, password protected directories and accessing the folders. Windows Server does not offer a password protected folder scheme, authentication for folders is done through group membership.  Create a group for your users that need to access these folders, add your users to that group and then add that group to the folders perms. Once ypou add the group, apply the specific permissions by highlighting the group and then choosing the permissions by checking the boxes:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/standard/proddocs/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/windowsserv/2003/standard/proddocs/en-us/acl_set_special_permissions.asp

To access the folders, simply share them and they will be available on your network:

Right click the folder(s) that you want to share, select sharing and then select share this folder.  You will need administrative permissions to accomplish most of the tasks that I have posted here.  Please post your results and any other questions that you might have. Hope this helps :)

Note:  The above URL's are wrapping.  They must be entered in your browser in a single line to work.  Just highlight them and paste them into your address bar :)

All you have to do is map a drive, here is how to do it:
