install new kernel with new patch

I want install new kernel2.6.1 with new patch-2.6.xx. how can do ?

1) download patch-2.6.xx.bz2 from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/
2) extract the patch file:
---------------
bunzip2 patch-2.6.xx.bz2
---------------

3) change to the source directory:
---------------
cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.1  (usually)
---------------

4) apply the patch:
---------------
patch -p1 < /path/to/patch-2.6.xx
---------------

5) Now the kernel source have been patched. Now compile as usual.
