Sybase Auditing in Version 11.0.2


Hi ,

I have A sybase database version11.0.2, I dont have the sybsecurity database installed.
What are the other ways of auditing the sybase database.

Depends on what you're wanting to do.

For very simple stuff, i.e. logging inserts/updates/deletes, you could have a trigger that also writes to some custom audit table. You'd have to write this per table you wanted to audit, and it wouldn't allow you to (for example) audit selects.

There are some not-really-documented trace flags that could give the Sybase errorlog more verbose error reporting, or log all login requests, etc. I'm not sure whether those existed at the 11.0.2 level.

For any "real" auditing solution, you need the standard Sybase auditing capabilities. There should be a script to install this in the "scripts" subdirectory.

The other main approach is to code this in your client application, but that means anyone directly connecting to the database will bypass the application auditing.
