All the LDF and MDF files are SQL Database files and unless you stop the SQL server, you won't be able to back these up through veritas. There are a couple of options for backing this up.

1.  Setup SQL to backup to a file nightly using SQL Enterprise manager.  The backup file will then be available and you can back it up.
2.  Get the Veritas SQL Backup agent.  $$$.  It will be able to then connect to the SQL server directly and backup the data.
3.  Script the backups to stop the SQL server and restart it after the job completes (not recommended - if you have problems with the backup and it hangs or the databases need to be online 24x7, they won't be and they might not be restarted in time

Also, Veritas 9 logs things differently - it would show "incomplete" instead of failed for the above jobs.

It also appears you have exchange.  There appears to be a message that is not backing up.  See if you can find more error info on that.
