I need to write a VB program to transfer data between 2 sites.
My boss ask me to check about the EDI for Data exchange. However, I haven't any idea of what is 'EDI'?

Can anyone give me some idea of it?
And how can this work with VB program?

Thank you~

EDI is a standard of transfering data (forms) among computers. See http://www.itl.nist.gov/fipspubs/fip161-2.htm.  I woul;d recommend using a combination of XML and EDI to simplify the process http://www.xml.com/pub/a/1999/08/edi/.

No. It is a federal standard for file formats http://xml.coverpages.org/ni2002-07-29-a.html as an example. Lets say you are a seller, so your customer asks for an estimate using a standard format, and you reply with a quote using a standard format. Then your customer replies with a purchase order using a standard format, and you reply with an invoice using a standard format, etc.. etc... The idea is a standrad format that both of you use, so it is easy to read on both ends. That is why XML is so "built-in" for EDI.
