Still have 'RPC Server Unavailable' message after applying previous solutions.

Hi,

I am getting messages which tell me the spooler has had to stop. I read the previous topic about this and restarted the spooler in Control Panel/Administrative Tools etc., along with setting it and the RPC server to 'automatic'. I then restarted the machine and the spooler stopped again. i have tried it several times but get the same result each time. The message I get is this:

'Spooler Subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close etc.'

I recently installed Win XP Service Pack 2 and then uninstalled it because it screwed my network - could this have anything to do with it?

Win XP running on Dell Dimension 4500, Epson Stylus C44. The printer had been running fine for 2 years before this.

Different question: If I had installed SP2 on the Laptop, would the network have worked properly then?

There are several issues with XP SP2 and networking. you need to read up on it before you install, as some services are disabled by default for security reasons.

I would  reinstall the print driver and possibly delete and then  reinstall TCP/IP .
